Universign, a French electronic signature specialist, has announced a €12m round of fundraising in a round table headed by Odyssée Venture, Caisse des Dépôts and Crédit Mutuel Innovation, a subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale group and long-standing shareholder. The company is planning to expand its operations in five European countries, attract more than 120 talented staff to strengthen its teams and develop its partner network.

Electronic signature specialist Universign ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements while also offering a straightforward user experience and fluid signature process. Thanks to its commitment-free service and pay-per-use pricing, companies and public bodies using the service only have to pay for what they use and therefore have better control of their costs.

Universign has achieved steady growth of 40% a year over the last few years and is now looking to expand further in Europe, primarily in the Benelux region, Spain, Italy and Germany to begin with. The company already has experience in these countries thanks to its international clients. The Universign electronic signature is used in over 150 countries.

Universign will devote part of the funds raised to recruiting new talent in order to strengthen its teams. 120 job vacancies will be available between now and the end of 2019. Lastly, this round of fundraising will support the company’s plans to expand its partner ecosystem. As a member of the Adobe Approved Trust List, Universign is now looking to increase its number of integrations.

“Universign has seen rapid growth thanks to the wide-scale adoption of electronic signature by its clients. This surge in interest shows that confidence in digital technology is now a priority for companies wanting to digitise their processes, particularly when it comes to binding documents. We are delighted that Odyssée Venture and Caisse des Dépôts have put their trust in us, alongside Crédit Mutuel Innovation (formely CM-CIC Innovation), which already supported us in 2013. Their faith in our vision and our ability to succeed in our international expansion is an encouraging sign,” comments Julien Stern, Founder and Chairman of Universign.

Crédit Mutuel Innovation is proud to continue to support Universign, leading the company to a new chapter in its history alongside its directors and new financial backers. The partnership between Crédit Mutuel Innovation and Universign, which began in 2013, attests to our firm belief in the relevance of the technology developed by the company. This new round of fundraising will enable the company to implement its ambitious strategic plan and step up its international rollout,” adds Stéphane Simoncini, Principal at Crédit Mutuel Innovation.
